Erik Samakh exhibition Paris puts the new alongside the old masters
The Rodin Museum is one of artistic Paris's most important attractions, a house and garden where the finest of the master of modern sculpture's work is there to be enjoyed in perfect surroundings. For decades, the curators have invited leading contemporary artists to exhibit their work alongside some of the most well-known of Rodin's sculptures, offering a unique perspective on both old and new.
This summer the museum is installing the extraordinary work of Erik Samakh, famous throughout France for his bold, avant-garde light and sound installations.
For the Rodin Museum, Samakh has crafted his signature firefly stones, large apparently natural pieces studded with light, giving Rodin's sculptures an entirely fresh environment. Samakh is fascinated by the integration of urban places with nature, and in the garden of the Rodin Museum, he has found his ideal destination.
You'll also experience a unique sound sculpture, in which Erik Samakh echoes Rodin's women with whispers, voices and laughter. As the old master's work comes alive around you, you'll find yourself transfixed with this brand-new, site-specific work by one of France's leading contemporary artists.
