A magical family Christmas in Paris

Categories : Entertainment, Visit Paris, published on : 12/10/16

For a family celebration, there’s no time better than Christmas. And Paris knows it! Want to see your children enraptured by enchanting illuminations, having fun on the ice, enjoying their favourite Disney characters or thrilling to a world of old-style amusements? The Hotel Marais Bastille offers you its secret for a successful holiday season.

Paris creates a magical atmosphere

Night falls and the streets of Paris glitter and sparkle like an earthbound constellation. Here, in the City of Light, you will discover a very special atmosphere. The embodiment of Christmas spirit. Trees ablaze with light, buildings festooned with garlands of illuminations, and shop windows revealing worlds of wonder; here is everything to make the eyes of the whole family shine. Whether you explore the lesser-known streets of the capital or stroll along the most beautiful avenue in the world, you’ll find there is something for everyone. Whether it’s the Champs-Élysées, Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Les Halles or Avenue Montaigne and Place Vendôme, you will be transported by creative imaginations into the hearts of stars.

Plunge into the fabulous worlds that scintillate behind the windows of the renowned Parisian department stores. Your children will be dazzled by the polar bears who have become Santa's assistants, or the moonlight walk of the various Galeries Lafayette characters. A starry sky awaits them at Bon Marché and they can share the Christmas dreams of two children whose tale is told by Printemps. If you want more good cheer, don’t miss the city’s Christmas markets. Decorations for the tree, delicacies and gifts await you there. Check out the large market on the Champs-Élysées, or that of Defense, Bercy, or on the esplanade of Notre-Dame. Santa Claus awaits the younger ones at these locations.

All the fun of Christmas

Christmas is not just the lights and that merry guy in red, however. It is also about fun with the family and Paris can offer plenty. For example, several outdoor ice skating rinks have sprung up throughout the city. The biggest one is on the Champs-Élysées, but you can also skate while admiring the illuminations of the Eiffel Tower at Trocadero or show your champion moves on the blades at the Charléty Stadium. The ice rink of the Grand Palais is also a magical place where you can skate beneath the vault of the building’s magnificent Beaux-Arts dome.

Other events fill the month of December. Those who love the brightly illuminated and gaudily painted wonders of old-time fairground attractions and rides will find plenty to enjoy at the Musée des Arts Forains (Bercy, from December 26th, 2016 to January 2nd, 2017). Here you will discover the Festival du Merveilleux, a place of wonder and laughter for young and old alike. Then, to see Paris from above, take a ride on the big Ferris wheel of the Place de la Concorde. And what would Christmas be like without your children's favourite characters? Disney welcomes families to Marne-la-Vallée. See the parades, meet Mickey and have the most fabulous time possible in Europe’s greatest theme park.

So there you go; our itinerary for the perfect family Christmas!
