Christmas Lights in Paris to Light up Your life
Categories : Visit Paris, published on : 11/27/17
Christmas lights in Paris are a joy to behold. Each year at this time the City of Lights lives up to its name even more than usual as it is decked out in all its festive finery and the sight is one which brings out the full magic of this extra special time of year. From early December the city authorities light around 125 streets from 5.00 p.m. each evening until 2.00 a.m. Additionally the department stores and smaller shops are also festooned with lights. The centrepiece of the whole display is, however, the Champs Elysees, which you can reach directly from the Hotel Marais Bastille on Metro Line 1.
Christmas lights in Paris conjure the magic of the season
Paris takes pride in its unparalleled displays of Christmas lights. The gloom of Winter is banished annually by the city's breathtaking displays of yuletide illuminations in various shopping districts, historical sites and landmarks and renowned neighbourhoods.
The world famous Champs Elysees is usually one of the world's loveliest thoroughfares, but at Christmas it acquires an extra layer of enchantment. Along the boulevard's 2.4 kilometre length from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe some 200 plane trees are decked with colourful lights in starbursts, twinkling garlands, sparkling rings and shimmering curtains to create an avenue of enchantment. The effect will be even more special this year due to 400 projectors which will be set alongside to produce additional scintillating spectacular effects. All this will be crowned by the sight of the majestic Paris Big Wheel, gleaming like a beacon at the end of the boulevard. From this ride set in the entrance to the Tuileries Gardens the views will be amazing.
