Ideally located in Paris, the Hotel Marais Bastille enjoys a proximity to the Picasso Museum. An exhibition dedicated to the artist’s famous Magic Paintings will be held at the museum from October 1st, 2019 to February 23rd, 2020. While enjoying your stay at our hotel, why not take the opportunity to marvel at these masterpieces?

The Magic Paintings gathered at the Picasso Museum

During the summer of 1926, Pablo Picasso began to create strange figures on his canvases. He continued to experiment with shapes and colours until the spring of 1930. The cohesive collection that resulted from this intense period is referred to as the Magic Paintings, so named by the art critic Christian Zervos in 1938. These Magic Paintings can be viewed as sharing some characteristics and anticipating the power of the Spanish artist’s masterful Guernica of a decade later.

Over the years, Picasso’s Magic Paintings have found homes all over the world, infusing a unique touch of surrealism to the places where they are displayed. The team of the Picasso Museum has managed to gather together many of these works, which can thus be viewed in the same location for nearly 5 months. Displayed side by side, the paintings will once again be seen in their proper creative context, automatically resuming their meaning and enfolding you in a universe where each work can interpreted in accordance with your imagination.
