Culture and enrichment in Paris
Meet the brilliant author Oscar Wilde at the Petit Palais from September 28th 2016 to January 25th 2017, the magician of Surrealism Rene Magritte at the Centre Pompidou Centre from September 21st 2016 to January 23rd 2017, and the father of Franco-Belgian comics Hergé at the Grand Palais from September 28th 2016 to January 25th 2017, and your life will be enriched by their astonishing creativity.
Oscar Wilde at the Petit Palais
The impertinent and iconoclastic Oscar Wilde will be honoured at the Petit Palais in an exhibition entirely devoted to the Irish poet, essayist, playwright and novelist. Wilde loved Paris, the city in which he lived his final years, so it is entirely appropriate that this look back at his life and work should be presented here in the heart of the city. Literature enthusiasts and those who are simply curious about this remarkable man will find much of interest amidst the more than 200 items on display.
René Magritte at the Centre Pompidou
Art lovers will flock to the thematic exhibition devoted to the Belgian Surrealist René Magritte at the temple of modern and contemporary art, the Centre Georges-Pompidou. This fresh look into the visual and conceptual magic of the artist who helped to make people think differently about imagery is called The Treachery of Images and offers a unique opportunity to understand the philosophy and approach adopted by one of the leading Surrealist painters of the twentieth century. Taking its cue from themes dear to Magritte, the exhibition shines a light on his concepts of resemblance and realism by focussing on works dealing with the deceptive representation of the world.
Hergé at the Grand Palais
Captivating readers of all ages with their charm, excitement, sense of fun and utterly beguiling art, the adventures of Tintin are known and loved throughout the world. The writer and artist of this masterful series of graphic novels was the late, great Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi, better known as Hergé. The current exhibition at the Grand Palais looks back on his innovative creative approach and the influences from which it grew.
The capital also boasts many other events this autumn, including a Rembrandt exhibition at the Jacquemart-André Museum from September 16th 2016 to January 23rd 2017, and one dedicated to Barbie at the Museum of Decorative Arts until September 18th. It may be a cliché, but it is nonetheless true, that Paris offers something for everyone. For fashion fans there’s Anatomy of a Collection at the Palais Galliera until October 23rd; lovers of challenging art will enjoy Eva & Adele at the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris until October 25th; and those who are interested in industrial design will head for the Roger Talon exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts, extended until January 8th 2017.
