Summer in Paris: sales and cinema to fill your days and nights

Summer in Paris: sales and cinema to fill your days and nights

Visit Paris in the summer to discover how wonderful the capital can be under the sun. But it’s not all about watching the sunlight dancing on the ripples of the Seine, gorgeous as that is. There’s also a bounty of bargain hunting to be enjoyed for six weeks from June 22nd, when shoppers take advantage of the summer sales. And what better way is there to unwind after a day in the shops of Paris than by relaxing before a huge cinema screen set up out in the open? This is just part of the summer programme that awaits you when you choose to stay at the Marais Bastille Hotel!  Outdoor cinema - Picture copyright holder Conseil départemental des Yvelines

Fill your bags with bargains

The French capital is known internationally for its museums, monuments and restaurants, but also for the wonderful shopping experiences it provides, especially when the summer sales take place. From the end of June until August 2nd the big department stores, independent small shops and designer boutiques cut their prices and throw open their doors so that fashionistas and casual buyers alike can take advantage of the bargains on offer. If the chance to shop ‘til you drop makes you happy, Paris is the place to be this summer. From the Boulevard Haussmann to the Champs Elysees and along the Rue de Rivoli and beyond, the discounts will allow you to renew your wardrobe or freshen up your home without spending a fortune.

Gifts, perfume, clothing, décor items, jewellery, bags, shoes…you name it, it’s here at prices that sink lower and lower as the sales season progresses. Whether you want a holiday that’s all retail action, or a mix of shopping and sightseeing, you’ll find that you can get anywhere in the city quickly and easily when you’re based at the Hotel Marais Bastille.

The silver screen beneath a silver moon

Visiting the Eiffel Tower in the warm glow of sunshine, exploring the riches of the Louvre or climbing the slopes of Montmartre are naturally on the itinerary when visiting Paris. But why not relax after nightfall in a different setting, getting some fresh air while enjoying a good film? Open air movie screenings are hugely popular in Paris, and take place in various locations throughout the city, including the Place des Vosges, the République, on Montmartre, in the Parc André-Citröen, the Jardins du Trocadéro, and the Pelouse de Reuilly, These shows are free and offer an exhilarating mix of classic works from great directors along with some of the more outstanding releases of recent years.

Between July 29th and August 14th, after a good dinner, you can settle down in a deckchair or on a blanket spread on the grass and be transported into the magical world of cinema, an experience made even better by being enjoyed beneath an open sky. Each session begins at 21:30. To discover or rediscover much-loved, cult or less known films, the Festival du Cinéma au Clair de Lune is a wonderful idea that will send you back to your room at the Hotel Marais Bastille for sweet dreams.

EDIT : FOLLOWING A DECISION OF THE FRENCH GOVERNEMENT, THE FESTIVALS OF OUTDOOR CINEMA ARE UNFORTUNATELY CANCELLED.
