Categories : Visit Paris, published on : 12/1/23
The Hôtel Marais Bastille invites you to explore an exciting part of Paris. Straddling the Marais, with its Renaissance and Classical mansions and its concept stores, and Bastille, with its cafés and artists' ateliers, this district offers you the ideal starting point from which to discover an exciting and authentic Paris. Today, the team would like to present the 11tharrondissement to you in more detail…
A district full of character
The 11th arrondissement is one of the districts most recently integrated into the City of Paris. For a long time, it was comprised of industrial suburbs where the artisans who built Paris and decorated its most beautiful palaces resided. Thus, you will find around the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine a tradition of artistic cabinetmaking which has persisted through the centuries. Likewise, if you visit the Atelier des Lumières, the art exhibition space where immersive digital exhibitions are held, you will find yourself inside an old foundry building. The history of the 11th arrondissement is also evident in three famous squares. The Place de la Bastille, where the Paris Opera stands today, recalls the events of July 14th, 1789, and the capture of the fortress which marked the start of the Revolution. The Place de la République continues to be a gathering place where major popular events are commemorated. The Place de la Nation preserves the soul of the Republic in its monuments. This popular spirit is cultivated every day in the warm and friendly atmosphere of the 11tharrondissement, particularly in the bars and cafes...
A district full of life
Well anchored by its history, the 11th arrondissement is still a part of today’s world. It has begun its green transition impressively, as evidenced by its numerous cycle paths. You’ll find a wide variety of eco-responsible businesses there – bulk grocery stores, second-hand stores, environmentally friendly florists, etc. Culture is also very much at the forefront. In addition to the Opéra Bastille, you can go to the Maison des Métallos for a show or a conference, to the Bataclan for a concert, or the Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione for a spectacular in the great circus tradition. Street art is also prominent, with the Mur Oberkampf constantly being reinvented by current artists. As for gastronomy, you’ll find there’s something for all tastes. Bistronomy, world cuisine, food artisans such as the Manufacture Chocolat de Ducasse, traditional dishes, young up-and-coming chefs… There’s so much to enjoy.
A district full of character much-loved by the Hôtel Marais Bastille team, the 11th arrondissement is waiting to be experienced and shared by you. Treat yourself to a shopping spree in the artisan workshops, contemporary art galleries, and second-hand boutiques before immersing yourself in the latest digital exhibition at the Atelier des Lumières or attending a production at the Opéra Bastille. Finally, at any time, it’s a pleasure to sit on a terrace and enjoy the vibrant, cosmopolitan and inclusive ambiance of its streets.
